THE Outrigger on the Lagoon Resort on Fiji's Coral Coast has a hilltop spa centre with outstanding views over the resort and ocean. The person chosen to manage the Bebe Spa was found within the existing staff. Praveena Dewan, a 32-year-old local Olosara resident worked her away up through the resort, where she initially started as a cashier in the resort's Sogo store outlet. SERAH RALOVO has recently been honored with a promotion to Assistant Resort Manager at Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages on Taveuni Island in Fiji. Serah started at Coconut Grove in 2001 as a garden worker as there were no positions available inside the resort. She quickly moved up to waitress and housekeeping, and has silently been leading the staff the last 2 years. Serah is also a trained Massage Therapist with 3 years experience. UNESCAP Survey forecasts increase in Fiji Tourism jobs

A survey conducted by UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) forecasts that if the tourism industry in Fiji continues to show growth, there could be marked increase in tourism jobs for the local population. This is especially important for Fiji because of the increase the population sector aged between 15 and 24. UNESCAP recommended not only improvements in the investment environment but also a review of labour laws to ensure not only that employment was available for youths wishing to enter the workforce but also to address the concern that women were better represented in the formal employment arena.
