Fiji Islands is situated approximately 3100km north-east of Sydney, 2100km north of Auckland and 5100km south-west of Honolulu. The country is bisected by the 180 deg meridian.
This island nation is comprised of more than 300 islands. The main island is Viti Levu, followed by Vanua Levu and Taveuni in the North.

The normal working hours for government departments are 08:00 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday, and 08:00 to 16:00 on Friday.
The local time is 12 hours ahead of GMT. Fiji is situated directly west of the International Dateline, making it one of the first countries in the world to see a new day.
Daylight saving of 1 hour applies during the months of November, December, January and February.
Trading currency is the Fiji dollar. The exchange rate is determined by the central bank - The Reserve Bank of Fiji - by weighing the Fiji dollar against a basket of currencies from Fiji's major trading partner countries. Currency Converter.
The fiscal year is from January 1 to December 31.
The capital of Fiji Islands is Suva, a city situated on the south eastern coast of Viti Levu.
The main economic activities are tourism, sugar, fishing and copra. Farming (copra and dalo) and the garment industry are other export winners.
Fiji uses the metric system of weights and measures.
Vehicles are driven on the left hand side of the road.
